Offering your menu in several languages

Turn on additional languages, translate your products and categories, and see what each customer gets.

If customers who don't speak your language come to your restaurant, you can offer them the same menu, translated. It isn't a separate menu: it's your usual one, with the same link and the same QR code, which each customer reads in their own language.

How it works

Your menu has a primary language, the one you write it in, and can have up to 3 additional languages. The available languages are Español, English, Português, Français, Deutsch, Italiano.

You write the translations yourself. Delimenu doesn't translate anything automatically: that way you decide exactly what each dish is called in each language.

Turning a language on

  1. Open your restaurant and click "Settings".
  2. Scroll to the "Menu languages" card.
  3. Check that the Primary language is the language your menu is written in.
  4. Under Additional languages, turn on the switch of each language you want to offer.

Changes on this card are saved on their own. From that moment your customers can pick that language on the menu.

Important: changing the primary language doesn't translate anything. It only tells Delimenu which language your menu is written in, and it is the language your orders arrive in.

Translating your products

  1. Go to the "Menu" section and open a product with "Edit product".
  2. At the top of the form there is a tab for each language of your menu. The first one is your primary language; the others are the translations.
  3. Open a language's tab and type the Name and the Description in that language. If the product has variants, you'll also see the name of each variant and each option.
  4. Save the product.

Next to each tab's name there is a number showing what is still missing in that language.

Only the text your customer reads is translated. Prices, photos and availability are the same in every language and are edited on the primary language's tab.

Translating your categories

When you create or edit a category, a "Name in…" field appears for each additional language. It's optional: if you leave it empty, the main name is shown.

What your customer sees

  • The menu opens in the language of their phone, if it's one of those you offer. Otherwise it opens in your primary language.
  • Next to your restaurant's name there is a selector, "Menu language", to change it at any time. The menu remembers their choice.
  • Anything you haven't translated is shown in your primary language. You can turn a language on and translate little by little, and nothing is left blank.

The link and the QR code are the same for every language. There's nothing to reprint. See What your diners see.

How orders reach you

Always in your primary language, whichever language the customer was reading. A customer who orders from the menu in another language sends you, over WhatsApp, the product names exactly as you wrote them. See Turn on WhatsApp ordering.

FAQ

Does Delimenu translate my menu automatically? No. You write the translations yourself, product by product. If you use an AI agent connected to your menu, you can ask it to write them for you. See Manage your menu from an AI agent.

What happens if I turn a language off? It stops being offered on the menu, but its translations aren't deleted. If you turn it back on, they're still there.

Do I have to translate everything before turning a language on? No. Whatever is missing is shown in your primary language until you translate it.

Does it cost extra? No. It's included in your plan and in the free trial.
