Variants and options: sizes and add-ons

Let diners choose a size, add-ons or sides, and add to the price.

Variants are the option groups a customer picks when ordering a product: the size of a pizza, the add-ons on a burger, how the steak is cooked. Each option can add to the price.

How to create a variant

  1. Open the product ("Add product" or "Edit product").
  2. Scroll to the Variants block and click "Add variant".
  3. Type the Variant name (50 characters maximum). This is the heading the customer sees: "Size", "Add-ons", "Cooked".
  4. Decide whether it's Required.
  5. Choose "How many options can the customer choose?" and, where it applies, the Minimum and the Maximum per option.
  6. Add the options with "Add option".
  7. Save the product.

Tip: use a single word for the variant name. "Add-ons" reads better on a phone than "Optional add-ons and sides".

The decisions

Required

If you turn this on, the customer can't add the product to the cart without choosing. Use it for pizza size; don't use it for add-ons.

How many options they can pick

OptionWhat it means
OnePicks a single one. Ideal for size or doneness
UnlimitedCan pick as many as they want. Ideal for add-ons
CustomYou set the maximum, in the "Maximum" field

Minimum

Appears when the variant is Required and is not a single-option one. It is how many options the customer has to pick at least: "pick at least 2 sauces". It can't be higher than the maximum or than the number of visible options.

Maximum per option

Appears when the variant is not a single-option one. It is how many times the same option can be repeated: with 1, "pick 2 sauces" forces two different sauces; empty, the customer can order the same one twice (double cheese).

The price of each option

The price you enter is added to the product's base price. Use 0 for options that cost nothing.

Wings — "Sauces" variant Required: yes. Pick: Custom, maximum 2. Minimum: 2. Maximum per option: 1.

The customer picks exactly two sauces, and they have to be different.

Showing and hiding options

Each option has an eye icon to show or hide it without deleting it. Handy when an ingredient runs out: hide it today, show it again tomorrow, without losing the price.

At least one option must stay visible: if you try to hide them all you'll see "At least one option must be visible."

How the order reaches you

The chosen options travel in the WhatsApp message alongside the product, so you see exactly what each customer ordered without having to ask.

FAQ

How many variants can I add per product? There's no limit. But remember the customer orders from a phone: three groups is already a lot of scrolling.

Can I copy variants from one product to another? Not yet. They have to be created on each product.

Can I set a negative price, as a discount? No. Option prices only add. For a cheaper product, create a separate product.
