Availability and promotions: Out of stock, Hidden and On sale

Control what diners see and show promotional prices correctly.

Every product has three independent switches that decide whether it shows on your public menu and how: Out of stock, Hidden and On sale. You set them when creating or editing the product, they can be combined, and the change is immediate.

The three switches

SwitchIn your dashboardOn the public menu
None onGreen Available labelShows normally and can be ordered
Out of stockRed labelShows, marked as sold out, and can't be ordered
HiddenGrey labelDoesn't appear
On saleAmber labelShows with the original price struck through and the sale price

Because they are independent, a product can wear more than one label: a promotion that sold out mid-afternoon is still a promotion, just Out of stock.

When to use each one

Out of stock is for "we ran out today, come back tomorrow". The dish stays visible, so the customer knows it exists and orders it another day. Use it when something sells out mid-service.

Hidden is for "this doesn't exist for the customer yet": dishes in development, seasons that haven't started, products you're loading in stages.

Rule of thumb: Out of stock = "come back soon". Hidden = "they shouldn't know it exists".

On sale activates two fields:

  • "Sale price": what the customer pays today.
  • "Original price": the normal price, shown struck through beside it.

The original price must be higher than the sale price. If it isn't, you'll see "The original price must be higher than the sale price" and it won't save.

Effect on categories

A category where all products are Hidden doesn't appear on the public menu. If you hide a whole section product by product, the section disappears on its own — no empty heading is left behind.

FAQ

Does flipping a switch delete anything? No. The description, photo and variants are kept. You can switch back and forth as often as you like.

Can a product be Out of stock and On sale at the same time? Yes. The promotion stays configured and the customer sees the dish as sold out; when it's back, turn Out of stock off and the promotion is still there.

I turned the promo off — what happens to the original price? It is discarded and only the base price remains. If you turn the promo back on, you'll type it again.

Can I schedule a promo to start on its own? Not yet. Today it's switched on and off by hand.
